ECO Bags

Take part and join the Recycle Movement….

Bring out those colorful, reusable bags while shopping at the farmers market and slowly give a break to those white and clear plastic bags. No more crinkly noise, holes in your plastic bag from the weight of too many peaches for the delicious pie you cant wait to bake… reducing plastic bags means reducing clutter in your home and your fridge and helping out the environment. Win- win for everyone.

*CCCFM offers reusable and washable cloth EcoBags for fruit, veggies, and grains. They are available in 2 sizes at all the market information tables.

"Seasonal Market Reminder and Autumn Transition"

LAFAYETTE MARKET

Join us today Thursday, September 30 for the final Lafayette Market for the 2010 season!
4 to 8pm

Last chance to sell the truck load!
Stock up and say farewell to the farmers who brought the freshest produce to your city.

As we fall into transition
We can begin to refine our ability to modify our lifestyle towards seasonal changes easily by integrating our life with the exciting beauty, color and flavors of the fall. Warm days and cool nights of October mark the official jump start of cool weather food.

October is "Apple Month" delivering crisp, fragrant, juicy apples to our community markets. There are some amazing flavors coming from our apple sellers. Strawberries will start to vanish with the first rain so we need to prepare to let go and start thinking of alternatives. Grapes are at their peak right now and basil is still available.

Winter squashes load tables at the farmers market along with greens and spinach that take on a cool temperature gloss. These greens really appreciate cool weather and tend to come alive in the fall. As the leaves fall to create an autumn collage of abundance, pomegranates, pumpkins and persimmons will finish their coloring process by easing out of the subtle and becoming bright red and orange orbs. Pomegranates' ruby jewel seeds are great for added flavor and fiber in salads and the fresh juice is one of the best antioxidants you can ingest.

Just think about the delicious winter squash and tender vegetables waiting to be baked and roasted. Visualize steamy bowls of fresh homemade soup!
